At the GLASS Board Meeting last week one of the major points of discussion was the resumption of volleyball. The Board recognizes that many in our community want to get back on the court, or are already playing.
In its most recent guidelines, the Minnesota Department of Health allowed for sports they have designated as Medium Risk (including volleyball) to begin in pods of no more than 25 people. (Please read the full guidelines I have attached to this post.)
Based on an evaluation of the guidelines, the Board voted in favor of moving forward to provide outdoor playing opportunities. There are several steps that must occur prior to being able to do so, including completing a state-mandated COVID-specific plan, creating guidelines for on and off the court, securing sanitizing products, etc. When everything is in place, we will announce the dates play will resume.
To be clear, playing volleyball is NOT considered a safe activity. The Minnesota Department of Health has designated volleyball as a Medium Risk sport. USA Volleyball considers playing volleyball games to be High Risk. If you choose to play, you do so at your own risk.
We encourage you to get tested before participating prior to playing, also if you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. Test locations can be found at https://mn.gov/…/for-mi…/if-sick/testing-locations/index.jsp.
In the coming days, we will post a survey link to determine interest in outdoor play. Please look for that and respond if appropriate.
