Pickup Volleyball Gym Locations:

Sabathani Community Center
2nd floor gym,

Minneapolis Sports Center (MSC)
south end of gym, attached to the back of the Midtown YWCA
2121 E Lake St, Minneapolis

Player Level: Beginner/Recreational
For those relatively new to the game of volleyball, those in the process of learning the basic skills of accurate serving, passing and doing three hits, or those looking for a low-pressure fun game. This division will not run an offense. No previous knowledge of volleyball is required.
  • Where/When: Tuesdays at Sabathani
  • Time: 7 PM - 9 PM
  • Cost: $3 - $5 per night (cost is dependent on number of participants)
  • Players draw numbers for which team they play on for the evening.

Player Level: Intermediate
For those who have learned the basic skills of serving, passing and doing three hits. This division will run an offense and players will learn the dynamics and strategies of a 5-1 or 6-2 offense. Players in this division will begin or have begun to "specialize" as setters or hitters.
  • Where/When: Mondays at MSC
  • Time: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Cost: $5 - $8 per night (April - Sept); $7 - $10 per night (Oct - Mar); (cost is dependent on number of participants)
  • Players draw numbers for which team they play on for the evening.
  • Valid ID required to enter facility

  • Where/When: Thursdays at Sabathani
  • Time: 7 PM - 9 PM
  • Cost: $3 - $5 per night (cost is dependent on number of participants)

Player Level: Advanced
Players will consistently demonstrate advanced skills on both offense and defense and will be fully comfortable with a 5-1 or 6-2 offense.
  • Where/When: Wednesdays at Sabathani
  • Time: 7 PM - 9 PM
  • Cost: $3 - $5 per night (cost is dependent on number of participants)

Women's Pickup Volleyball

Volleyball League

Play the sport of volleyball in a formal league. League play is held at the Martin Luther King Community Center located on Nicollet Avenue just south of 40th Street.
  • Divisions: Men/Co-Ed Recreation or Women.
  • Register as a team or individual.
  • Registration is three weeks before play starts.
  • Costs: TBA
  • Seasons:
    Fall: Oct and November
    Winter: February and March
  • Registration for Fall starts in late August and early January for Winter

Pride Volleyball

This annual, one-day grass volleyball tournament takes place during the Twin Cities GLBT Pride Celebration at the Pride Festival grounds. The number of games played will depend on the number of teams participating in the event. There will be competitive, intermediate, and recreational divisions offered.
